Medication comes in a pen form and is injected daily, then weekly and is licensed in the UK for use in conjunction with a reduced calorie diet and increased physical activity for weight reduction and management in adults. In a recent European trial of 554 people with a body mass index (BMI) of between 30-40 (which classes this group as clinically obese) patients lost significant amounts of weight. At week 20, 76% of patients, lost at least 5% of their body weight.
Prior to starting on your weight loss journey you are required to have a consultation with one of our practitioners to have a full medical history review and there may be certain tests that may be required for those with other medical conditions. There are also certain exclusion criteria, which would prevent some patients from attending the clinic.
You may not be suitable if:
- You have a hypersensitivity reaction to or to any of the product components
- You have a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC)
- You have Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome
- You have Diabetes or you are currently using insulin
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have a BMI <25 or suffer from anorexia
- You have pancreatitis
- You have hepatic or renal problems
